Weddings

Congratulations!

If you’re on this page you’ve probably managed the hard part and found someone to accept or make a proposal! We would be delighted if you chose to celebrate this happy event with us. Whether it’s a legal wedding, a blessing or prayers after a civil wedding or partnership, or a re-affirming of vows on an anniversary we will be delighted to talk this through and get a date for this important life event.

When you speak to the vicar he will go through all the various choices. Here are some items that are worth thinking about before hand:

  • music to come into and exit, for between readings and during the signing of the registers

  • hymns - two or three is normal

  • readings - at least one from Scripture and something personal works well

  • flowers - we can advise and provide if required Flowers at St Margaret's — St Margaret's Putney

  • reception - a glass of fizz straight after the service or a cup of tea, during the first photographs

We are very happy to talk through all your requirements, whether you want the old words, a nuptial mass, a video of the whole thing or the shortest wedding possible, we’re here to make sure your day is as enjoyable and personal to you as possible as you make these vows to one another before almighty God.

If you want to be legally married at St Margaret’s you need to fulfil one of the following criteria. As long as you have 6 months before the wedding this is always possible!

  • If one of you lives in the parish.

  • If one of you is on the ‘electoral roll’, for which one of you needs to attend St Margaet’s on a Sunday for six months.

  • If one of you has lived at some point for six months in the parish.

  • If one of you was baptized in the parish.

  • If one of you was confirmed in the parish.

  • If one of you has at some point attended worship at St Margaret’s for six months or more.

  • If a parent of one of you has lived in the parish for six months or more.

  • If a parent of one of you has attended worship at St Margaret’s for six months or more.

  • If a parent or grandparent was married in the parish.
